The three-peating Mountaineers’ feats extended beyond the FCS, making waves throughout college football in the 2000’s. App State was the first program to win three consecutive national titles in the I-AA/FCS playoff era, as well as the first Division I program overall to three-peat since Army. In 2007, the Mountaineers famously stunned the No. 5 Michigan Wolverines in the Big House, marking the first time an FCS team had ever defeated a ranked FBS team.
